Collaborative Care Conversations
Psychology Internship program

A partnership between One Red Tree Resource Centre and the Grampians Region Palliative Care Consortium led to the inception of the Collaborative Care Conversations Pilot, beginning in 2023.

ORTRC provides opportunities for provisional psychologists to complete their 5 + 1 Psychology Internship.

Interns work within a supportive environment to deliver the unique Collaborative Care Conversations program with aged care residents, carers and staff. ORTRC currently provides this service at the East Grampians Health Service Aged Care Residential facilities, Eventide Homes and Gorrinn Village.

When working with residents, the provisional psychologist provides a structured intake assessment, use Dignity Therapy as a short-term client-focussed treatement allowing the resident to develop an optional legacy document, and provide the following evidence-based interventions as required:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

  • Narrative Therapy.

When working with families of the aged-care residents, psychologists can provide support for families when transitioning their family member into care or into end-of-life care, assist them in reducing anticipatory grief, and supporting them with grief and bereavement.

When working with staff in aged-care facilities, psychologists can provide support and consultation regarding numerous aspects of their role, provide referrals for individual psychological therapy, and opportunities for debriefing or supervision.

Our ORTRC provisional psychology interns are provided with supervision from AHPRA endorsed psychology supervisors and support to complete their requirements for a successful internship program.
